The Met Gala: What were they thinking?

The Met Gala is one of the most important nights in the fashion community. The entire world waits to see what celebrities and fashionistas will wear. However, often time these gowns cross the fine line from glamorous to downright weird. Here are some designs that made us look twice…for the wrong reasons!

1) Florence Welsh

While she creates beautiful music, her style isn’t nearly as pretty… Simplicity is key.

2. Sarah Jessica Parker

Any trace of the glamor from Sex and the City is lost here with this matronly gown. We understand that the Met hosts antiques, but that doesn’t mean you need to look like one.

3. Dakota Fanning

While we are huge fans of this adorable actress, we must acknowledge how unflattering this gown is. The color washes out her skin and the fit is just off.

4. Anja Rubik

This is just all sorts of wrong! Not only is it ill fitting in all the wrong places, but her hip bone is quite frankly scaring us! Cover it up a little and hire a tailor.

5. Chloe Sevigny

We don’t even know where to begin. The dress. The clutch. The shoes. It all needs to go! But it’s comforting to know that she has figured out a new use for old CD’s!

6. Elizabeth Banks

Why is everyone OBSESSING over peplums? While cute in some cases, it just isn’t working here at all. Here comes all the pregnancy rumors…

7. Kirsten Dunst

What? Why? How? NO! We love Kirsten, but absolutely loathe this outfit. Just because you throw a belt on something, doesn’t mean it will look cute. Matronly isn’t flattering for anyone, well besides a matron…

8. Bianca Brandolini D’Adda

Someone needs to save this woman because she is quite literally drowning in sequins! This look is just screaming for attention, and that is not a good thing. At least she doesn’t need to bring a mirror in her clutch, she can just look at her dress!

The Fashion Do’s and Don’ts of Spring

1. Going Nude

DON’T do nude dresses that blend into your skin too much or leave little to the imagination

DO nude accessories like pumps that can elongate your legs!

2. Leggings are NOT pants

DON’T wear leggings and shirts that don’t cover your butt! Leggings are meant to add to an outfit, not be a major component.

DO wear leggings with a long shirt or tunic! This look is flattering because it gives off the casual vibe without looking slouchy or not put-together.Pair with boots and

3. Neon Overkill

DON’T overdo it with neon. Stick to one or two main colors and let the colors stand for themselves. Accessories are also a cute way to add splotches of neon into your wardrobe!

DO wear statement neon pieces! Neon is a huge trend this season and can look great when used right. Go for clean lines and non printed neon outfits to rock this trend!

4. Denim on Denim

DON’T wear a denim jacket with a denim bottom! We totally love denim jackets but when paired with jeans or other denim apparel they just overpower the look.

DO wear denim jackets with dresses! Denim jackets and dresses go together perfectly for spring. This look is perfect for summer nights and gives off a “casual chic” vibe. Also, don’t be afraid to pair a denim jacket with a patterned maxi dress!

5. Monokinis

DON’T fall into the monokini trend! This look is not flattering for the majority of body types and can cause some clothing malfunctions that everyone wants to avoid.

DO wear bikini’s, tankini’s or one-pieces! These styles have been lasted throughout the decades for a reason: they work! Opt for more classic silhouettes that are both flattering and won’t get you arrested!

Dressed to Kill: Fashion Inspired by “Hunger Games”

With the movie opening of “Hunger Games” coming right around the corner, fashion buzz inspired by the movie has certainly been circulating.

Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, is a style setter not a fashion follower.  She has a tough edge to her, and can pull off dresses that make bold statements.

For Katniss Everdeen, clothing becomes an accessory, just like body armour. The silhouette of a body hugging mini dress combined with striking cut-out detailing and a slouchy kimono top allows for easy movement, perfect for a nice spring stroll, or even channeling your inner Katniss shooting a bow and arrow.

Trends on Red Carpet at the Oscars

Hollywood’s biggest night fed our fashion appetites with a surplus of classic trends ~ metallics, nudes, and lipstick reds all graced the Oscar stage. Here are a few of our top picks, the real winners of last night.

Metallics:

Aside from looking perfect on George Clooney’s arm, Stacy Keibler rocked this slinky gold number from Marchesa.

Even though she didn’t take home the Oscar for Bust Supporting Actress, The Help’s Jessica Chastain looked gorgeous in this gold-embroidered stunner from the late Alexander McQueen.

Nudes:

Presenter Cameron Diaz worked the Oscar stage in this form-fitting Gucci number, accented with the perfect hint of sparkle.

Bridesmaids funny girl Kristen Wiig looked ravishing in this nude tiered J.Mendel, complemented perfectly by her loose waves and dark nails.

Reds:

The Help’s Emma Stone wowed in this deep red halter from Giambattista Valli, accented with an oversize bow at the neck.

My Week With Marilyn’s Best Actress Nominee Michelle Williams stole the show in this red peplum Louis Vuitton, which she paired with a petite hot pink clutch and crystal bow brooch.

Whites:

Gwyneth Paltrow landed at the top of everyone’s best dressed list in this white one-shoulder from Tom Ford with an unexpected detachable cape.

Milla Jovovich shined at her first Academy Awards appearance in this classic white Elie Saab Couture gown. The beaded, one-shoulder stunner was perfectly complemented with a bright red lip.

And finally, the star of the night. The Help’s Best Actress Winner Octavia Spencer was captivating in this crystal beaded Tadashi Shoji gown.

Spring trends 2012

It is that time of year again…..winter!  Well, since it is January and I definitely have the winter blues; I thought what better time to talk about spring fashion and give everyone something to look forward to:  Warm weather, green leaves on the trees, and AMAZING spring colors, prints, and styles.  Spring is SUCH a great season for fashion and this spring is no exception.  While all styles aren’t meant to worn by everyone (not everyone can pull off a drop-waist dress) there is definitely something out there for everyone.   Here are some of my top spring looks for this season (AND a sneak peak at what will be at moxie this spring!).

Pleats:  Pleats, especially accordion pleats, are back in a big way.

Check out this skirt by one of my FAVORITE new brands, Ladakh.

Black and White:  Another great trend this season, black and white which can be incorporated in so many ways!

We are in LOVE with this black and white maxi by Aryn K!

Cropped tops:  Another trend that can’t be pulled off by everyone (and shouldn’t be tried by everyone!)  These along with bra tops, backless tops, etc. are making a big splash this upcoming season.

Crop top in light pink by Gentle Fawn.

Doily Lace:  Yes, lace.  It is still a trend that won’t go away.  You have to be careful with lace.  It can look feminine and delicate, or you can literally LOOK like a doily!

White lace top by Gentle Fawn.   A great way to incorporate the trend and not be over-the-top.

Prints:  We are all about prints this season.  SO many great prints: from zig-zag to chevron and everything in-between there are some great prints this season.

Gentle Fawn printed skirt, one of my favorite new things!

White:  Color is big this season, but so is WHITE!  Tops, bottoms, and dresses there is a little something for everyone. Just be careful, it can wash you out.

White dress from Ladakh.  Pair it with some rocker boots for an edgy look.

Florals:  Possibly my favorite trend this season (so hard to pick just one!) is floral.  Floral prints, colors, patterns, are everywhere and if there is one trend you decide to follow this season I say it’s this one!

Floral dress with cutouts by Lucca Couture  SO cute!

Which trends are you most excited about this season? We would love to hear your thoughts!  Regardless of which trends you decide to sport this season, make sure you have fun with it and make it your own!  That is, after all, what fashion is all about!

Golden Globe Awards 2012 style

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Emma Stone can do no wrong!  This Lanvin was one of

my favorites of the night, it just worked on her.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba shined in Gucci.  I loved the color, the neckline,

and all the details.

Mila Kunis in Dior

Another hit for me was Mila Kunis in this black Dior number.

She definitely looked sexy while appropriate in the chiffon gown.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Angelina Jolie also wore Atelier Versace.  The satin with the

gathering and the red neckline definitely added drama, but

I just wasn’t thrilled.  I know she was on all the best dressed

lists, but it just didn’t do it for me.

Lea Michele in Marchesa

Lea Michele is a huge Marchesa fan and we can see why.  This

is simply breathtaking.  The silver sheer and embellishments are

right on trend and so amazingly detailed without being over the

top.  One of my favorites for sure!

Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen

I loved Reese in the red Zac Posen mermaid gown!  I don’t know how

she walked in it, but I loved to see red and the deep sweetheart

neckline was spot on.  I also loved that she was wasn’t overdone

with hair and makeup, she looked natural and it worked.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale looks amazing in this cream strapless dress by Roberto Cavalli

The crystals on the dress were elegant and she looked

natural and fresh and her body is smokin’ hot!

Jessica Biel in Elie Saab

Jessica Biel doned the lace trend as well in this Elie Saab gown.  It

was a little too much lace for me: maybe if the sleeves hadn’t been

long I could have jumped on board but this to me was dowdy and old

and she is anything but!

Paula Patton

You have to give Paula Patton props for daring to show up in a

bright yellow gown, even if it is Monique Lhuillier.  to me it looked

liked they took one of the designers wedding dresses and dyed it

yellow, but I didn’t HATE it.  I always like when you take risks and

if you can pull off bight yellow then more power to ya!

Overall, there were a lot of hits this year, which was nice to see!  The

trend was definitely ivory and lace, which was not surprising, but I can’t

help but LOVE color!   Especially with spring around the corner I would have

liked to see more color on the red carpet.  But as usual everyone looked

amazing and we can’t wait to see all those knock-off dresses that  I am sure

are being made even as we speak, especially with prom season right around the corner.

Sarah Michelle Gellar definitely took a risk at the Golden Globes by wearing this Monique Lhuillier ballgown, but her daughter picked it out so you gotta give her props for choosing it and taking a major risk (and it just gives her the ahhh factor).   I actually don’t mind it, at all.  I think it is fun and fresh and totally different and I love the sweetheart neckline.  Maybe if it hadn’t been SO much dress it would have been better received and not landed her on almost all the worst dressed lists out there.  I say whatever, at least she took a chance and wore something fun and eye popping!

Some things we are LOVING right now!  Just got back from Intermezzo show in NYC and we are SO inspired!   There are some amazing spring/summer trends out there and we can’t wait until they get here!  Here is a glimpse of what’s to come….
